From MOHAMMED KAWU, Bauchi -- THE remains of the former Comptroller-General of Prisons, late Ibrahim Mohammed Jarma was laid to rest at Azare. Late Jarma, it would be recalled, was taken to Azare Federal Medical Centre and later transferred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi as a result of attack by unknown gunmen. While his funeral rites were conducted after the corpse was moved to Azare, some unknown hoodlums set fire on his Azare guest house. It was learnt that two children whose ages were put at between 8 and 9 were arrested by the police in connection with the guest house fire. A relative of the deceased, Malam Ahmed Musa confirmed the burning of the late Jarma’s guest house and the arrest of the two children. The House Committee on Legislative Compliance has also been directed to ensure that the resolution was enforced, and it was given 14 days to brief the House on the level of compliance. From EZERU ONWUKWE, Abia -- AS a result of the impending National strike to be embarked upon by Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Abia State Government has commenced negotiation with the State Chapter of the Union over the payment of the new Teachers Salary Structure (TSS). It was gathered that the meeting which was summoned at the instance of the State Government witnessed the meeting being held in two segments at the Executive chambers of Government House, Umuahia, yesterday. From SULAIMAN AHEMED MISAU, Katsina -- ABOUT 13 million Naira contract for the renovation of headquarters of Katsina State Library Complex has been signed. Speaking after signing the contract documents, the commissioner for Information Culture and Home Affairs, Alhaji Gide Sani Batagarawa recalled that the building housing the library complex was never renovated since it was constructed in 1976 in the defunct Kaduna State. Commissioner Gide Batagarawa explained that the renovation project consists of four components viz Building, electricity, furniture and plumbing works. He expressed optimism that the contractor would do a good work to provide conducive atmosphere for reading.
