THE remains of the former Comptroller-General of Prisons, late Ibrahim Mohammed Jarma was laid to rest at Azare.
Late Jarma, it would be recalled, was taken to Azare Federal Medical Centre and later transferred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi as a result of attack by unknown gunmen.
While his funeral rites were conducted after the corpse was moved to Azare, some unknown hoodlums set fire on his Azare guest house.
It was learnt that two children whose ages were put at between 8 and 9 were arrested by the police in connection with the guest house fire.
A relative of the deceased, Malam Ahmed Musa confirmed the burning of the late Jarma’s guest house and the arrest of the two children.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Ladan could not be reached for comment as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Hassan Mohammed Auyo was on casual leave.

NIGER State Governor, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has described as baseless the allegation that he intends to scheme out Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta from the upper chamber of the National Assembly after his second tenure as Governor of the State in 2015.
Senator Kuta who spoke on Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA) yesterday alleged that Governor Aliyu was working in concert with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in Niger East Senatorial District to scheme him out of the 2015 contest, insisting that he still wants to continue after 2015 when he would have spent eight years in the Senate.

THE House of Representatives has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to remove Arunma Oteh as Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The House Committee on Legislative Compliance has also been directed to ensure that the resolution was enforced, and it was given 14 days to brief the House on the level of compliance.
The call, according to the lawmakers, was pursuant to its earlier adoption of a report of the Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi’s adhoc committee that investigated the Nigeria’s capital market, where on July 19, 2012, the House okayed the recommendation that Oteh be removed on the grounds that she did not possess the lawful qualifications to head the Commission.

THE Zonal Coordinator, North West Zone of the National Emergency Relief Agency (NEMA) Alhaji Musa Illalah has reiterated the commitment of the federal government towards providing succor to the people who in one way or the other fell victims of flood, and advised those living in prone areas to relocate to convenient places.
Illalah was speaking to journalists in Ringim local government over the week end when he distributed some relief materials on behalf of NEMA to the victims of flood disaster at Yakasawa, numbering thousands.
The Zonal coordinator said the relief materials which include food items and building materials were given to the victims as a relief, and should not to be seen as compensation for the colossal loss they incurred in the incident.

ABOUT 13 million Naira contract for the renovation of headquarters of Katsina State Library Complex has been signed.
Speaking after signing the contract documents, the commissioner for Information Culture and Home Affairs, Alhaji Gide Sani Batagarawa recalled that the building housing the library complex was never renovated since it was constructed in 1976 in the defunct Kaduna State.
Commissioner Gide Batagarawa explained that the renovation project consists of four components viz Building, electricity, furniture and plumbing works.
He expressed optimism that the contractor would do a good work to provide conducive atmosphere for reading.
The commissioner commended Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema for earlier providing 11.2 million naira for the supply of reading materials to the Library and its 27 branches.
