By all standards, Chief Solomon Daushep Lar the erstwhile Governor of the old Plateau State is an erudite politician, or better still, a colossus of Nigerian politics who stood against all immutable forces to re-establish the democratic system of Government currently reigning in the Country.
Chief Solomon Lar, the first National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and currently a NEC and BOT member of the party, first worked in various capacities in the Office of the then Premier of the Northern Region Sir Ahmadu Bello the Sardauna of Sokoto and won the 1979 Gubernatorial Election in the old Plateau State under the Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) [with its slogan power to the people ] with over 363,000 votes to beat his closest rival Mr.Micheal Audu Buba of the then National Party of Nigeria (NPN) who scored over 176,000 votes.

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West yesterday said the zone is yet to adopt any candidate for the vacant position of the party’ Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairmanship.
The party in a statement in Ibadan by its Zonal Publicity Secretary of the party, Honourable Kayode Babade pointed out that contrary to speculations in some quarter’s, PDP in the South West for now has no anointed candidate for the post.
PDP South West in the statement maintained that the clamour by the South West PDP for the vacant BoT position does not translate to adoption of any candidate for the position,.
The party emphasized that the PDP South West was ready to abide by whatever would be for the progress of the PDP at the National level saying, ’’we will abide by the overall decision of the party leaders.”

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday warned Governor Abiola Ajimobi against “intimidating and harassing members of the opposition party in the state.”
The party also vowed to use legal means to defend its members as the race towards the 2015 gather momentum.
In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan signed by its Oyo State Chairman, Alhaji Olayinka Taiwo , theparty alleged that the recent interrogation of the former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin and the search conducted on his houses by the police in Ibadan last week Thursday, were a ploy by the governor to cow opposition in the state.

Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga, has said the position of the Kaduna PDP Chairmans remains in the Southern zone until further notice.
The Deputy Governor who was the immediate occupant of the seat stated this in a telephone conversation with the New Nigerian at the weekend while reacting to reports on the zoning arrangement of the PDP in the state.
Ambassador Bajoga said, PDP believes in justice and fairness as enshrined in the party’s constitution.

THE Igala Community in Kaduna has commiserated with people, government and family of late former Governor Patrick Yakowa, who died penultimate week following a helicopter crash in Bayelsa State.
In a statement signed by chief Hashim Ogbole, President of the community, and made available to the New Nigerian at the weekend, said the community received the sad news of the demise of the former governor with a rude shock, saying he died at the time his services were needed to take the state to the next level of development.
According to the Igala community, the late governor had pursued the cause of peace, mutual coexistence and religious tolerance throughout his two years period in the leadership saddle, and enjoined the new administration in the state to follow suit.

GOVERNOR Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has berated the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yunana Iliya, over his recent call for the impeachment of the governor over his hearing impairment.
Almakura in a chat with newsmen said he was disappointed that someone of the standing of Iliya would make such a statement on disability.
According to him, such a statement can only be described as “immoral, inhuman and ungodly,” saying that it was made by Iliya for lacking of something to say.
He said, Iliya does not have the moral justification to speak on accountability in the state because he was among those responsible for several abandonment of projects across the state.

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West has asked the party’s National secretariat to concede the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairmanship position to the zone.
The party in a statement issued by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Kayode Babade and made available to journalists in Ibadan after the joint meeting of the BOT members from the South-West and the Zonal Working Committee of the party held in Abeokuta, Ogun State maintained that the honour that can be done to the South West in the face of the marginalization of the zone was to zone the BoT chairmanship seat to South West.

Northern Initiative for Democracy and Good Governance in Nigeria (NIDEGON), a Northern based political Group, has said that the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar should vie for the Presidency come 2015.
The Chairman of the Group, Alhaji Abubakar Musa-Dass made this known Sunday in Bauchi when he led the group to address a press conference.
Musa, a former state secretary, Jonathan/Sambo 2011 Campaign Organization in Bauchi, said however that, the group was yet to convey its interest to Atiku to vie for the number one seat.

The Chairman, House of Representative Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, yesterday said that the recent endorsement of the incumbent Governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi by a section of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state does not prevent other party members from challenging him at the primary.
Bamidele,who is representing Ado-Ekiti/Irepodun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency 1 in the House of Representatives maintained that the purported endorsement was a mere expression of opinion as allowed by democracy.
