Osita Chidoka ...FRSC boss

Osita Chidoka ...FRSC boss

[Posted on January 7, 2013 --- By Ibrahim  Paul  Yushau] --- The corps marshal and chief executive of the federal road safety corps (FRSC), Mr Osita Chidoka needs little introduction, his charm and charismatic mien can hardly be missed in a crowd. This is the unassuming and conscientious young man that the responsibility of propelling the affairs of the federal road safety corps (FRSC) fell upon in June 2007 after the retirement of his predecessor Major Gen. Halidu Hananiya (rtd). Like the proverbial child given  daunting daily to perform, Chidoka readily accepted the task with both hands, with a clear sense of mission and vision. The workaholic (FRSC) Boss has proved that truly wisdom comes from God and does not reside with the aged alone. He has also proven that young people if given the chance can really make a difference by distinguishing themselves creditably in whatever national assignments they are entrusted with. As th...

Atiku still relevant in politics

January 7, 2013

[Posted on January 7, 2013 --- By Abdullahi General] --- My attention has been drawn  to the recent mischievous  advertorial sponsored and placed in the Daily Trust newspaper of Monday, December 31,  2012, written by one Husseini  Gambo Bello which appeared on page 34 captioned ATIKU AT IT AGAIN. The said sponsored writer enumerated some false accusations on Atiku about the recently appointed PDP Care Taker Committee in Adamawa and also the recently concluded PDP Ward Congresses that were held in the state, by mentioning that the agents appointed to conduct the so-called congresses by the Care Taker Committee are known to be Atiku's cronies who have lost political relevance in Adamawa state. He also asked a question on who Bamanga Tukur is  assiduously working for by attempting to hurriedly surrender the Adamawa state chapter of the PDP to  Atiku's political group. He made mention again clearly that Bamanga Tukur is working ...

[Posted on January 2, 2013 -- By FEMI OGUNSHOLA] CHIKE, a 25-year-old man, was apprehended on the Lagos-Benin-Ore road while robbing commuters sometime last year. The man later confessed that he got entangled in the armed robbery web, after failing to secure a job after graduation. Rita, a 26-year-old graduate of a university in the southeastern part of Nigeria, said that she became a prostitute after failing to get a job in Abuja. These two young Nigerians exemplify several others who got involved in crime and other anti-social activities, after making unsuccessful moves to earn a living in more honourable and socially acceptable ways. Such instances compel concerned observers to bemoan the absence of good youth development and employment strategies and policies in the country. They insist that for Nigeria to attain and retain sustainable development, the government should make tangible efforts to promote the interests of th...

Why the North, why Muslims?

October 5, 2012

By Mustapha   Shuaibu   Rabo Ringim -- The sensational editorial of Vanguard Newspaper regarding the alleged utterances made by the Minister of State Foreign Affairs Dr Nuraddeen Mohammed was rather unfortunate and a pointer to the deepening position of Nigerians on the unity and continued survival of the country as one indivisible entity. It is a fact, that, ministers don’t attend meetings of such International standing without briefings from their subordinates. In Foreign affairs for that matter, and having known the implication of any diplomatic engagements, speeches are written and comments are scrutinised before airing out by any senior official for public consumption. Nura isn’t a trained nor a career diplomat, his language should therefore, be excused and granted benefit of doubt. Far from that, is what Nura said wrong? The historical perspectives on the activities of Southern press on the North and on Islam regardi...

By IBRAHIM  MUSTAPHA PAMBEGUA -- It is quite obvious; Nigeria has been facing lots of challenges in the quest for her nation-building process. More dauting are the current happenings that pervade the political atmosphere. At 21st century, when other countries have been rapidly developing politically, economically and socially, the so-called giant of Africa is still battling with myriads of problems. This, could not be un-connected with the emergences of various social vices which highlight differences between diverse ethnic groups with dis-similar interests and aspirations. Consequent upon that, tribalism is taking centre stage, destroying the fabric of nation’s unity with tribes threatening separation or formal withdrawal from the federation. The raised wave of insecurity across the country such as: Boko Haram insurgency, MEND’s activities in Niger-Delta and kidnappings with the attendant consequences of lots of lives and pro...

Taraba and fight againt HIV/AIDS

October 3, 2012

By MAGAJI HUNKUYI In Taraba state the fight against HIV/Aids is now focused more on prevention of transmission from mother to child. The new  initiative  behind the prevention of transmission of HIV from mother to child is of great importance in the control of AIDS in the state because it reduce, the risk of passing the virus from infected mother to her new born baby. The permanent secretary for the State Agency for Control of Aids, Dr. Ambita Siman while speaking on efforts of his agency in the control of spread of the disease said. He said the control of aids is a  serious task which  the agency has been carrying since its establishment in 1998. According to him, infected mothers will allow to breast feed her new born baby and instead the baby will be placed on milk. Dr. Ambita said the new method has proved effected as babies born by Hiv positive mother will not  be infected with the virus. According to him, since the ...

By Ifeanyi   Izeze -- Recent deliberate attempts to resurrect the onshore/offshore dichotomy controversy and elevate it to the level of an urgent national issue despite the known fact that it has all the trappings to generate acrimonious wrangling within the already over-heated polity brings out who we really are as Nigerians. By the way, who is actually afraid of this dichotomy? From most of the comments by our self-acclaimed leaders on both sides of the divide, Nigerians are being manipulated into believing that there are some sections of the country that are afraid of resurrecting or even amending sections of the Nigerian Constitution that dealt with this onshore/offshore thing. In the first instance, what is onshore/offshore dichotomy? If we go back to the 1960 and 1963 constitutions, sections 134 and 140 respectively, the Continental Shelf of Nigeria going up to 200 nautical miles was deemed to be part of a region for the ...

Leave Dame Patience Jonathan alone

By  Emmanuel Y. Kwache -- Nigerians derive joy for undue criticism. They thrive in putting someone off especially if they did not find themselves in that position. What they fail to understand is that no one is perfect. No one human being on earth is perfect. In several places in the scripture, we have been instructed to pray for those God, placed influential positions on their laps. After all we have been told, God giveth, power to whom he desires. First, some started with her pronunciation of English words. Even the English man had to learn some of his words from cradle. They tabled the permanent secretary issue for discussion on the pages of newspapers. If she didn’t deserve the promotion; there was no how need, now, for some other person, somewhere to bring it up. Nigerians do not respect their leaders at all, nor have regard for their elders and seniors. Are they not flesh and blood? No one is infallible, Then her sickness...

What manner of Central Banking?

September 24, 2012

By  Okachi KWU  Dibia -- In Nigeria, like other countries of the World, from time to time, there must be one issue or the other making the news and heating up the polity. Today it is the stubborn decision by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to print or mint N5000 currency note and this has been approved by the President and later rubber-stamped (could they have done otherwise?) by the Nigeria Economic Management Team (NEMT). So why should other small Nigerians like me talk about what Mr. President had approved? I just want to exercise my right to express my feelings on an issue I believe will affect my life negatively beginning from 1st January 2013 when the N5000 note will be put into circulation. Because currency must be printed, to me, this cost should be seen as given or sunk cost and therefore is not important in the decision to print or not. But what is important is how printing higher denomination note will affect the ec...

Oil spillage and its effects

September 18, 2012

From Sherifat YAHAYA Abuja -- Oil spillage has become common disaster in Nigeria especially in the Niger Delta region and parts of Lagos State. This phenomenon could be described as the accidental discharge of petroleum or petroleum products into the environment thereby causing ecological risk to both land and sea creatures. On land, oil spills are usually localized and thus their impact can easily be managed. Marine oil spill on the other hand may result in aquatic pollution covering large area with its attendant hazards. The primary cause of oil spillage on sea is oil transportation; either by tankers or under-water pipelines. However, the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria limited (SPDC) is committed to minimizing oil spillage in Nigeria. One of the methods adopted towards this end is prompt response to alerts from either the Contract SPDC Community Surveillance Teams or the general public. The first step taken by th...
