Yakowa ’ll receive Torch of Unity today

Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa of Kaduna State will receive the ‘Torch of Unity’ today at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House to signal the official countdown to the forthcoming 18th National Sports Festival tagged ‘Eko 2012’ slated for November 27 through December 9 in Lagos this year.
New Nigerian Sports learnt that those to accompany  the Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bolaji Abdullahi to Kaduna to present the torch include the zonal representatives of the NSC and sports, marketers of the Torch of Unity.
In Kaduna, those expected to receive the torch together with Governor Yakowa are his deputy, Alhaji Tijjani Ramalan Yaro, all the commissioners, SSG, Head of Service, COS, SA political and PS political among others.
The itinerary of events made available to New Nigerian Sports show that the Sports Minister’s team will arrive in Kaduna from Abuja today and handover the torch to the Kaduna State Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Engr. Dauda Lawal Abubakar who will in turn hand over the torch to his Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Nazifi Jibrin Mohammed.
At noon, Hon Nazifi Jibrin Mohammed will as well hand over the Torch of Unity to Governor Patrick Yakowa at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House who will make his goodwill speech as a tradition.
It would be recalled that the Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo last Tuesday received the Torch of Unity from the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi. Vice President Namadi Sambo passed on the torch to the host governor of the 18th edition, Babatunde Raji Fashola.
In his remarks at a brief ceremony held at the State House, Abuja, Vice President Namadi congratulated the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi for successfully hosting the last edition of the biennial games, the Nigerian version of the Olympic Games.
The Torch of Unity symbolizes the unity and friendship engendered by the spirit of the sports festival which is hosted every two years.
Kaduna State hosted the 16th National Sports Festival when the vice president was the governor of the state.
