Sambo assures of free, fair election in Ondo
VICE President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has assured of a free and fair election in the forth-coming Ondo State gubernatorial poll, saying it would be “one man one vote.
The Vice President gave this assurance at the flag-off of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial rally in Akure while presenting the gubernatorial candidate of the party Olusola Oke.
Arc Sambo, who is the Chairman of the National Campaign Committee of the PDP candidate in Ondo also promised the provision of adequate security to ensure the conduct of a free, fair and peaceful election devoid of rancour come October 20 when the election would be held.
Earlier, the vice president called at the Palace of the Deji of Akure Oba Adegbiyi Adesida to pay his traditional homage.
While at the palace, Arc Sambo intimated the royal father of the adequate security arrangement being put in place for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
The Vice president also assured that, in line with the administration’s respect for democratic tenets, the election scheduled to hold on October 20 would be free, fair and peaceful.
The vice president also took time to intimate the Deji of Akureland of the various inroads Jonathan’s administration has made in the areas of youth employment and the provision of social infrastructure.
Sambo stated that, in line with the administration’s Transformation Agenda, the government was committed to revamping the power sector, which was key to socio-economic development of the nation.
He stated that on their assumption of office, they had been able to increase power generation from the 2,000 mw which they met to over 4,300 mw presently. With the 10 new thermal power plants that have either been completed or in the completion process, power generation has leapt and more power was being generated.
The construction of new 330/132 KVA transmission lines and additional injection substations being built across the federation would ensure adequate transmission and distribution of power. In addition the vice president stated that new hydro power plants in Mambila and Zungeru were also being built to add to the existing ones.
On transportation, Arc Sambo stated that the Federal Government was constructing 2,000km of roads, rehabilitating rail lines across the federation, dredging of the River Niger as well as construction of new deep seaports.
On youth unemployment, the vice president stated that the YouWin programme of the administration was aimed at generating mass employment and would employ 350,000 youths every year in public works. This was in addition to other economic empowerment programmes of Jonathan’s administration as well as its commitment to the fight against corruption in the country, said Sambo.
