Why Boko Haram persists, by Senator Zanna

Embattled Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District of Borno State, Alhaji Ahmed Khalifa Zanna, said the mixing of politics with the Boko Haram phenomenon was one reason why the security agencies were finding it difficult to combat the insurgence.
The senator who addressed a press conference shortly before honouring an invitation by the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja yesterday, described the invitation as an attempt to frame him up. He fingered former Borno State Governor, Bunu Sheriff, whom he defeated at the last Senatorial election as his chief tormentor in his current travail.
Zanna was invited by the SSS to report yesterday in connection with the arrest of a top commander of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, Shuaib Mohammed Bama, but the Senator quickly pointed out to journalists present at the news conference that the suspect was arrested at a house owned by former Governor Bunu Sheriff.
He described pronouncements by the Military Joint Task Force in Borno State that the suspect was arrested at his residence as false and an attempt to push him into the dragnet to pave the way for former Governor Bunu Sheriff to find his way to the Senate.
He said “ I represent the Borno Central Senatorial District in the Senate. My historic defeat of former Governor of Borno State, in person of Ali Modu Sheriff at the polls has not and will not go down well with many forces and individuals in the country for some time to come.”
He explained that “ therefore this latest campaign by the Military Joint Task Force in Borno State to dessimat falsehood against me, that is to say they arrested Shuiab Bama at Ali Bunu Sheriff’s house, they chose to tell the world that they arrested him in my house is part of the campaign to rope me into the JTF dragnet, declare me a Boko Haram member financier, sympathizer harbormaster even activist and declare my seat vacant, all to pave way for Ali Modu Sheriff to be hook or crook come to the Senate! No more No less”, he said.
He emphasized that  brute force no matter how brutally it is used cannot alter what Allah has decided, saying that he had exposed the excesses of the JTF operating in Borno State that abandoned the rules of engagement in the counter insurgence campaign and called on President Goodluck Jonathan to withdraw them.
He said he had also frontally engaged the JTF spokes person on BBC Hausa Programme where he exposed many of their attrocities which did not go down well with the security Agencies adding that his house been raided, his family sacked from home as they conducted a search but found nothing incriminating.
