Gov. Yakowa at NN Forum says — 2015: I HAVE NO INTEREST
From ABDULL-AZEEZ AHMED KADIR,
Kaduna CONTRARY to speculations in some quarters, Kaduna State Governor Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa said he has no interest in anything come 2015, describing rumours to that effect as the handiwork of mischief-makers. Answering questions at the New Nigerian Forum yesterday, Yakowa said anyone in Kaduna should not even be talking about 2015 now.
He attributed the rumours about his ambition for 2015 to the handiwork of mischievous and reckless politicians who, out of idleness, organise meetings and discuss all sorts of things. “That is the height of mischief and mischief makers, they are at work. I want to align my self with Mr President. Please, we should not be talking about 2015; especially I here in Kaduna.
The three things I mentioned to you; security, peace and development, what I can do in the time that the people of Kaduna State have given me is my top most priority now,” the governor stressed. He stated that having come this far, even if he vacates the seat today, he will be grateful to God. “So for people to start associating me with 2015, it is height of mischievous and reckless politicians who, really when they don’t have things to do, they go and hold meetings and say all sorts of things. But certainly not Patrick Yakowa thinking of even governorship. “I have not even spend half into my first time, and someone is talking about 2015 and the presidency; it is unfortunate. But I can see it is the people that have nothing to do and they want to drag peoples name into the mud, clean them up with their bosses and so on. You can’t get that from me, Yakowa assured.
The governor said he is one person who is very grateful to God because He has been gracious to him. “If there is anybody who has held appointments in this country, I have. So I am ever grateful to God. So, please, those who are talking about 2015 and the Presidency; not here, let them look else where or look for another issue to use for blackmail, but definitely not this issue,” he reiterated. It would be recalled that there were rumours making the rounds that Governor Yakowa’s name is being mentioned as possible successor to President Goodluck Jonathan. There were also reports that some people are planning to print posters of the governor with purported presidential ambition just to embarrass him before the presidency.
